My name is Bryce and I am taking this class because the career I wish to pursue does tend to use film to document things. The career I wish to do is Marine Biology. Marine biology documents and films marine life to in form people about sea life and how they live. It not only informs the public but it also HELPS save the lives of these animals by getting people more involved in ocean clean-ups and helps fund raise these expeditions.

After two+ weeks in Film 1, how do you feel your views on film have changed? In regard to the artistic aspect of film? In regard to the work involved in pre-production, filming, and editing?

After two weeks of Film 1 I have learned more about angles of shots and how film was first started as a one shot story. I've learned that having the camera steady and still is one of the most important skills needed.

My favorite shot out of all of the shots is the pan shot because it allows you to follow the character during a running scene but is still smooth and clear. My least favorite is the oblique shot/Dutch shot because it is not good for close up more zoomed out shots. Learning about these shots have taught me that as a cinematographer that certain shots are good for certain things.

I look at film with a artistic perspective because there are tons of different shots and takes that are put together to make a film and that doing certain shots and editing techniques is going to give you the best product. In the end the product appears to be a fluid mosaic and flow as if that was the exact way it was filmed. One film me and my team made that showed artistic perspective was our melodrama. It had different shots and takes put together with a script and the end product was better than what we started with. there was a scene when we were confronting the bad guy and we transitioned to a hand held or first person view which also showed the reaction of the criminal before he made a run for it. In the end the film flowed like a calm moving river or fluid mosaic.

After these past months I have learned so much about film and the editing process along with films history and how it started. Film has layers like a cake. The beginning is just the raw film that you have filmed. It contains certain ingredients or angles that make up its recipe. The next layer is the editing. The editing alone is like the cook time. In order for your "cake" to be cooked to perfection or film to be edited to it's max possible you have to use certain effects and sounds to make your film be perfect. The final layer is the frosting on the cake or the final product. The final product is what makes you look back and see a memory of your past visually. I learned that film started with no sound at all then it moved to sound films but had a deep struggle with the camera's. I've learned that film is not something you get right the first time, that it is a art that takes practice to perfect. I liked when we watch older films because it shows me how much film has changed in little time. I thought this half of the semester was very informal and I cant wait for the other half.

I really like your analogy, Bryce! I think your thoughtfulness in your reflection shows your deep understanding of the form and is a strong framework for your solid work. Keep building and expanding on your creativity and efforts because they're really paying off in the productions your creating!

After using the studio to film I have to say I enjoyed it the most. Being able to adjust the lighting if needed was a huge advantage to make beautiful arts of work in film. Being able to get clear and more crisp sound was very helpful in getting the film to make sense. All the different props and lights made the film move smoothly without other distractions. My only thing I didn't like was the air conditioning. It is pretty loud.

I think I am going to be pitching a horror based film about a scare crow or pumpkin psychopath that is hunting down people one by one. I am drawn to this genre because i have a pumpkin mask at home that would be awesome for this film. I would be the pumpkin man and Dallas, Nikita and Thomas would be the victims. I usually don't like horror based films but I see a very exciting opportunity to try out a horror based film. I hope my team will accept my idea and we will go out with a bang for this school year!

BEST DIRECTOR
You have always been amazing with pitching great ideas that led our projects to A's. You have always been honest on what we could change and how we should film specific things. That is why I think you deserve this award.

You deserve a "Best Director" award since you have done some pretty cool plots and scenery for our videos.
