My name is Dean. I am a junior who has been a student musician and a student athlete at River City High School. I have performed in the marching band, junior varsity football team and currently play on the varsity basketball. I am experiencing new interests to find out what my talents are for the future. I will become an accountant in the future. I want to understand more about technology and i feel this class will help me reach that goal.

How do filmmakers develop and convey stories within the mise-en-scène? - - Describe the process of creating your one-shot and multi-shot films... How did you work as a group to develop what shots should be taken? How are you approaching the editing process? What have been some successes and hurdles in these first projects? How do you feel your views on film have changed now that you've had a taste of the work involved?

Filmmakers plan a story and use actors to dramatically express the story through emotion and character to the audience. Our group crafted a pre-production script, then we all brainstormed to combine all of our ideas into a final product. I combine all of the scenes taken and cut out anything extra that I don't want in the film. Some successes were the film taking and some hurdles were the pre-planning for the film. I expected to enjoy the work of film and my views haven't changed. I am excited for the future projects.

Consider the shots and camera movements we've defined, shot, and edited. Which is your favorite from those you captured for your commercial and why? Also, which is your least favorite shot/camera move and why? What has learning about all these shots/moves taught you about cinematography?

I feel that my favorite camera movement that our team has captured is the zoom in because it emphasizes our team's product and it allows the viewers to consider if it is worth purchasing. My least favorite camera movement would have to be the extreme close up because our take wasn't very stabilized and we could've done a better take for it. Learning these shots/moves has taught me that cinematographers must be patient when capturing the perfect angle and their job is more difficult than it sounds.

Reflect on the process of creating a TV Show Pilot: Provide the logline for your original screenplay and connect your costume designs and ad campaign to the story you created... why did you design what you designed based on the story? Tell, too, about the TV Show Pilot you filmed and edited with your group... what was it like to work with a script and what types of shot(s) do you feel brought the show to life most?

Original log-line: When the school is corrupted, the principal must keep his mysterious secrets safe from all the students that roam the school. I designed specific clothing for a rebel with jeans and a long sleeve and crimson hoodie because I felt like the main character would best wear clothing that is comfortable, yet school appropriate. I felt excited to follow a script and capture unique shots that brought more excitement to our film. I feel like the shots that brought our film to life the most was the slow motion and insert shot.

What are some of your biggest psychological barriers when it comes to making films? Share your ups and downs of filmmaking on your blog, and how you plan to continue to grow in the second half of the class.

Some of my biggest psychological barriers are being inspired to create new and original content for my written screenplays. I think of a new idea but realize that it has been used before and it takes me longer to brainstorm for new creativity. In the next part of the class, i will try to explore the world more for more brainstorming ideas. I will also take criticism in a positive manner so that I may improve.

Describe your experience shooting this project in the film studio with the added lighting elements. How do you feel the studio time affected your final product quality? Additionally, how did you approach the montage portion of your film. Describe what you chose to cu together and what effect you hope for it to have on your audience.

My experience was pretty fun regarding the lighting session in the studio and hope to do it in another project. The studio time affected my final product quality by giving variety in the storytelling of my projects. I usually chose to do metric, tonal, or ideological/intellectual montages. I tried to blend the montages with superimposition to quicken the story. I chose to clip the studio footage and combined it with multiple provided stock footages to hopefully keep the audience interested/ entertained.

Soon, you'll be pitching an idea for a feature film in this class. What genre do you think you'll focus your creativity on? Why are you drawn to this genre? What do you find most interesting about this genre? What would you hope others would get from your work if you were to create films in this genre?

I think I'll focus my creativity on the genre of comedy, action, or hybrid of both. I am drawn to these genres because I want my audience to have a good laugh with or without some amusing entertainment through action. I find humor a healthy benefit to all and a good laugh can always brighten someone else's day. Action creates the cool atmosphere that many people respect and would inspire people to do what they personally want to do. I hope that others would understand how much a good joke can effect their outlook of life and they need to take action to reach their goals.

Describe your most recent shoot recording a music video. Which song did you choose and what type of concept or mixture of concepts did you capture. Describe what you the final product looks like and how you'd define it in regard to "documentary," "low concept," &/or "high concept." What are you most proud of with this project?

Recording the music video was somewhat of a challenge due to the lack of pre production due to the weeks testing. However, the ideas came quickly and the recording of the video became easier and more simple. We chose the song "See You Again" by Wiz Khalifa and with his song, our team decided to create a high concept video for more emphasis of symbolism. The final will look like a combination of three clips of different aspect ratios consisting of symbolism throughout the video and a commentary at the end to support documentary. I am most proud of the edited timing of the clips with the music and our cooperation as a team in general.
