I express my creativity through writing and music. I enjoy making short films about anything and everything. I hope to gain a more creative output from this class.

A setting tells a story just as much as the actors do, meaning that a shot should be able to capture as much of the setting necessary to explain what is happening in the story. The process of editing film requires a lot of patience and attention to detail. One of the difficulties from the first projects was trying to properly line up a shot in a small space. I understand that film is a job that requires mistakes to be made in order to come up with the intended results.

My favorite camera movements are zoom ins and zoom outs because they can add a dramatic or comedic aspect to a shot. My least favorite shot is probably high-angle shots because they can be difficult to frame correctly. Learning about all these shots has taught me that cinematography takes patience in order to get the desired outcome.

When working on the TV Show Pilot, I thought the shots that brought the show most to life were the point of view and zoom in shots. Having a script made it easier to understand what is happening in a scene and how to better portray a character. Creating a screenplay allowed more aspects of a character to be explained and give a better understanding to how a character should speak or act.

I think my biggest psychological barrier in film is the fear of being creative. I will find myself not putting every thought I have into a story because it may come out wrong, be difficult to portray, or that nobody would understand it. Another barrier would be lack of motivation. While editing, it can get difficult to figure out where every shot should go and editing it so it looks correct. It takes a lot of patience and time to get the desired product. I never thought I would find myself acting in any of the films my group has made and it is something I would like to improve on.

I hope the montages I have created for my film will give the audience an idea of what the place that is being shown is like and how time is passing between scenes.

I believe I will focus my creativity on comedy. Some of my most favorite films are comedies. What I find most interesting about this genre is the freedom to create. I hope others will learn to be open to ideas that may seem strange or different.

My group chose to do a high concept music video using the song Sail by AWOLNATION. The final product is simple but still symbolic. I believe I am most proud of the rhythm between the shots and the music.
