I am Jose, a student at River City High School who loves to edit videos and program. Perhaps in the future I'll become a Computer Scientist, someone who will program, analyze data structures, and algorithms. I believe this class will help me express myself better with something I enjoy doing.

How do filmmakers develop and convey stories within the mise-en-scène? - - Describe the process of creating your one-shot and multi-shot films... How did you work as a group to develop what shots should be taken? How are you approaching the editing process? What have been some successes and hurdles in these first projects? How do you feel your views on film have changed now that you've had a taste of the work involved?

Filmmakers develop and convey stories within the mise-en-scène by choosing what the story is about and if that footage properly delivers the message. First, we thought of a simple, but meaningful story and we chose a location that would best fit it. We had someone record the footage, two people act, and the other directing. I wanted to smooth the transitions between where the actors were to where they were going. Getting back to editing is a bit rough, but I can get used to it in no time. My views of film haven't changed; it has always been fun!

Reflect on the process of creating a TV Show Pilot: Provide the logline for your original screenplay and connect your costume designs and ad campaign to the story you created... why did you design what you designed based on the story? Tell, too, about the TV Show Pilot you filmed and edited with your group... what was it like to work with a script and what types of shot(s) do you feel brought the show to life most?

We decided to go with a casual approach when it comes to costumes and stay in a place to where one can easily see that it's a spot to hang out at. My acting couldn't bring the character to life, but the other actor was amazing at it. Working with a script was a bit weird. Our lines could have been better, but it suited it well. The Over-the-Shoulder shots really brought out the setting and what really stood out.

What are some of your biggest psychological barriers when it comes to making films?
Share your ups and downs of filmmaking on your blog, and how you plan to continue to grow in the second half of the class.

The biggest psychological barrier that I've had when it comes to making films is me not living up to my expectations due to time. I know I can make my films several times better, but the little amount of time I have in class is quite stressful. In the second half of this class, I plan to have an idea of what I'm going to create as to just putting random thoughts and ideas together in that instant.

Describe your experience shooting this project in the film studio with the added lighting elements. How do you feel the studio time affected your final product quality? Additionally, how did you approach the montage portion of your film. Describe what you chose to cut together and what effect you hope for it to have on your audience.

Shooting this project in the film studio with the added lighting elements was something I wasn't used to. The lighting was quite new to me, but it was mainly the time that was the issue because every group also needed to flim their own project. The studio affected my final product quality because some color correction wasn't possible with the background being black. I approached the montage portion of my film by just making the character practice over and over again until they are satisfied. The message I want to have on the audience is to just keep practicing, even though you may not be the best at first.

Soon, you'll be pitching an idea for a feature film in this class. What genre do you think you'll focus your creativity on? Why are you drawn to this genre? What do you find most interesting about this genre? What would you hope others would get from your work if you were to create films in this genre?

I'm thinking of doing a Sci-Fi film. I am drawn to this genre because it uses a lot of editing, and that's something I'm decent at and enjoy doing. The most interesting thing about Sci-Fi is just the nerdy things it has. Being able to create cool gadgets that do anything is pretty sweet. I hope others would see that film is another way to express yourself with so many options to choose from.

Describe your most recent shoot recording a music video. Which song did you choose and what type of concept or mixture of concepts did you capture. Describe what you the final product looks like and how you'd define it in regard to "documentary," "low concept," &/or "high concept." What are you most proud of with this project?

Our most recent shoot recording a music video was much shorter than normal. Since there was no story and mainly expressions or symbols, it was much easier acting it out. The song we chose was "Whom Shall I Fear" by Chris Tomlin and the main concept we captured was the holy aspect of the song. The final product came out decently and I'd define this as a high concept film. I'm mostly proud of taking a role acting it since I'm not the best actor, but my group decided to put me in.
