My name is Karisma and I am a senior here at River City. In the near future, I hope to be accepted into Chico State, Cal State Monterey Bay or Sonoma State in order to pursue a degree in Psychology. I've always had a lot of interest in film as well as photography, so I feel like this class will give me more opportunities to get in touch with my creative side and create work that I can be proud of. Given that I am naturally shy and reserved, I hope this class will help me get out of my shell and not be afraid to try new things, such as acting.

Filmmakers utilize the mise-en-scene in order to capture one specific area and close in on that. Using the space within the mise-en-scene closes off everything else, leaving you without any knowledge of what might be occurring outside of the shot. While creating our one-shot and multi-shot films, it was important that we created a shot where you could see the two actors and their path to bumping into each other, not necessarily worrying about any offside space and blank areas. In the editing process, I am matching up both of the actors' journey through their movement. In these projects, it's been slightly difficult to make everything transition as smoothly as I want it to, but I'm satisfied with where my project is heading. I still feel the same about film but I think I'm a bit more intrigued since I've now taken part of it and began creating my own work as well.

One of my most favorite shots from the commercial would have to be the long shot as well as the medium shot at the beginning. I like the long shot because of the fact that there is so much to see in the environment surrounding us and we look much smaller in the frame. I also don't have a shot that I don't like, however, I think the zoom out shot looks slightly awkward and very abrupt at times. I don't think it flowed as smoothly in our commercial. Learning about all of these shots has taught me that there is so much thought and work that goes into perfecting and getting the right shot. I really enjoyed experimenting with all of the different shots and finding the one that was the best.

"Nothing seems to be going quite well for A as she goes through her day, but what happens when she meets a stranger who could very well turn it around?" Given the fact that the character in my screenplay is a fashion design student, I decided to design an outfit that seems very fashion forward and chic. In the ad campaign, I want to focus on making it pleasing to the eyes with deep, vibrant colors. Working with a script seemed to be easier than I thought. As for the shots, I think that the reaction and superimposition shots brought the film to life the most.

Most of all, I feel that my biggest psychological barrier would have to be being afraid of failure. I often get scared to try new things in case it doesn't work out for me and I fail, thus always staying in my comfort zone when it comes to creative processes. There have been a few times during this class where I have tried staying in my comfort zone especially with artistic aspects such as costume designing. However, I also have done something I would have never thought to do before: acting. In the second half of this class, I hope to not be so afraid of failing and try new things, no matter the outcome.

Describe your experience shooting this project in the film studio with the added lighting elements. How do you feel the studio time affected your final product quality? Additionally, how did you approach the montage portion of your film. Describe what you chose to cu together and what effect you hope for it to have on your audience.

At first, it was a bit stressful because of the fact that we had never utilized lighting like this before. We only had about half an hour of studio time, so we had to make sure the lighting was good and that we got what we needed to film as well. It was a bit of a struggle trying to juggle it, but we made it happen and were able to get all we needed. The montage I chose was a progression of skill, so there will be various flips in time as the artist builds up their skill. I hope the audience will recognize the change and time that comes with it.

I think the genre I will focus my creativity on the most will be horror or suspense. I've always been a lover of horror movies as well as suspense. Although the graphic depictions of violence and death and all that comes in horror movies can be scary, it's also fascinating to portray things like that on screen. If I were to create a film like this, I would want to scare and leave people on edge by it.

We chose a song that had a lot of meaning and was sort of emotional with the lyrics. Given the fact that the song had a lot of its own symbolism and emotional tone, we decided to go with a high concept music video. The symbolism in the video matches well with the tone of the music. I think I am most proud of certain shots in which the green screen was used to make it seem like angels were surrounding the character.
