My name is Melissa Arredondo, I am a freshman here at RCHS. I have always enjoyed watching movies, short films, and just videos in general but I have also wanted to know what goes on behind the camera and how videos are edited. I didn't exactly choose this class it was more so given to me, I wanted to know more about it. I had asked my step sister Maria and a TA from my math class, her name is Mia and she was telling me she had this class and that she was sure I was going to enjoy it. As she told me more about it I knew I was certainly going to enjoy it.

​How do filmmakers develop and convey stories within the mise-en-scène? - - Describe the process of creating your one-shot and multi-shot films... How did you work as a group to develop what shots should be taken? How are you approaching the editing process? What have been some successes and hurdles in these first projects? How do you feel your views on film have changed now that you've had a taste of the work involved?

Answer - Filmmakers develop and convey stories within the mise-en-scene by surrounding the most recognizable aspects of film. The process of creating my one-shot story was just a short one angle video, the multi-shot story was different clips of many different angles. we worked as a group to develop what shots should be taken by getting everyone's different opinion first then combining them all together to make a story. The editing process is harder than I had expected, but I'm getting there. A success from the first project was the process of recording so far editing has been a challenge.

Consider the shots and camera movements we've defined, shot, and edited. Which is your favorite from those you captured for your commercial and why? Also, which is your least favorite shot/camera move and why? What has learning about all these shots/moves taught you about cinematography?

Answer - My favorite shot that my group and I captured in our commercial was the wide shot because it established the setting of our commercial and that was when we laughed at Dontae for his "mac game". I don't have a least camera shot. When learning about the different types of angles and shots it taught me how creative cinematographers have to be in order to get all these different shots, and how it has to be the right angle at the right time.

Reflect on the process of creating a TV Show Pilot: Provide the logline for your original screenplay and connect your costume designs and ad campaign to the story you created... why did you design what you designed based on the story? Tell, too, about the TV Show Pilot you filmed and edited with your group... what was it like to work with a script and what types of shot(s) do you feel brought the show to life most?

Answer - My costume designs are just normal clothes for young adults living in Chicago with a different sense of fashion. Our TV Pilot was inspired by the tragic incidents that have been occurring. The shots that really brought our show to life was the establishing shot which allowed viewers to see where our video was taking place.

What are some of your biggest psychological barriers when it comes to making films? Share your ups and downs of filmmaking on your blog, and how you plan to continue to grow in the second half of the class.

Answer - Some of my biggest pysocholical barriers are being in front of the camera and being worries about what everyone whom will be watching will say about how I look or sound. Some ups of filmmaking in my blog was having to be creative with what shots to use to fit perfectly with the specific scene. Some downs were having to start off a film from scratch, I would always have these ideas but not sure of how we would go about it. I plan to continue to grow in the second half of this class by not shutting down my own creativity and ideas, and be mindful of my time with assignments.

Describe your experience shooting this project in the film studio with the added lighting elements. How do you feel the studio time affected your final product quality? Additionally, how did you approach the montage portion of your film. Describe what you chose to cu together and what effect you hope for it to have on your audience.

Answer - Adding the lighting elements changed the mood of the film, for example when two characters were found dead we had added a red lighting. With the montage I just had added some scenes for viewers to get a better understanding of what was going on.

Describe your most recent shoot recording a music video. Which song did you choose and what type of concept or mixture of concepts did you capture. Describe what you the final product looks like and how you'd define it in regard to "documentary," "low concept," &/or "high concept." What are you most proud of with this project?

Answer - I did a low concept music video. Our final product is a mixture of different clips added together to get your own idea of what the story is. Through out this whole project my most proud moment was editing and bringing the whole video together.
