Right now I am a shy, quiet girl, with a head full of ideas, but someday I plan to put those ideas on a page and show them to the world. In the future, I would like to be a published author, possibly even traveling the world for inspiration. What I came to this class seeking was a way to break down my walls and become a more sociable me, one that isn't terribly afraid of giving a speech or meeting and working with new people. I hope to continue to grow and learn within this creative outlet.

After two+ weeks in Theatre 1, how do you feel you have changed? In relation to your interaction with others? In relation to your interaction with yourself (inner monologue)? In relation to school? What further changes are you hoping to see in yourself?

After two weeks in Theatre 1 I feel I have changed in that I am more open towards new creative things and ideas that force me to step out of my comfort zone. My interaction with others has changed with me slowly, but surely, meeting new people and building new friendships. In relation to myself I feel I am more understanding that something may make me nervous and I wont want to do it but switching my thought process to a more positive outlook enables me to succeed. A way I have changed in school after two weeks in Theatre 1 is working with others and being more open to that idea. Further changes I hope to see in myself is a new found confidence in what I create and do, both inside and outside of theatre 1.

Today's Group Mime performance was my first and I'd like to say it went fairly smooth. Everyone was able to remain and character and perform each scene. I do believe we could have done with more rehearsing, but when it came down to performing, even with the little rehearsal we had, we were ready. As an audience member I enjoyed watching as a story enfolded before me, and was able to grip my interest.

Please consider your monologue... what are you doing to prepare yourself for the performance? How are you going to bring physicality to your character? Also, what specifically would you like feedback about for your performance?

In order to prepare myself for my performance I have been studying my monologue and giving a backstory to my character. I have been working on my voice and projection. I'm going to bring physicality to my character by moving how they would move, slouching, dragging my feet, etc. Specific feedback I would like about my performance is my confidence in my performance on stage, and how well I am able to get into character.

Reflecting on my monologue performance...it's hard to describe how it felt standing on stage, ready to perform. Shaky, yet confident, ready, yet unsure. Overall I feel I could have done better, that I froze up a bit under the bright lights and stares. I tried to use the space, hoping that way I wouldn't seem so stiff. I didn't have to look down at my monologue at all, it was just sort of there in my hand. I felt fairly good going into my performance and I guess during, but after a just had so many questions. Could they hear me? Was I shaking? Did I do well at all? I can't wait to receive my graded performance paper, just so my questions may be answered.

You did a great job of matching the tone and pace of your vocals to the text. I also appreciated that you tpook ownership of the stage and moved about it confidently. On a few occasions you spoke into a mirror, however you places that on the up[stage wall, where you cut yourself off from the audience. Where could that be placed, in your imagination, or in reality in a set design, where you as an actress would not be cut off from the audience?

Presenting my set design in a single word was terrifying. I was extremely nervous talking about the steps I took to get to my final design, but the positive feedback of the audience calmed my nerves. I was able to get through my presentation and feel good about it. I was glad that my creativity shown through to the audience and they understood my concept. Truly I didn't expect such positive feedback and reactions, but they were gladly accepted.

Describe your puppet character in looks, but also in personality. What physical things (fabrics, accessories, details) are you going to consider for your puppet creation that will help us to know and understand the character? How and why will these attributes have a deeper meaning for your character?

My puppet character is a doll, with blue hair and button eyes. My inspiration came from the stop-motion film, Coraline. The personality of my character is more on the soft spoken eerie side. She would be quiet and nervous, only talking fully to those she knows. I plan to use actual buttons for the eyes of my puppet, and blue yarn for her hair. She will have freckles and a distinct yellow raincoat. These items and features will give my character a deeper meaning because they will add to the eerie difference of the doll, showing how its not like most "pretty" dolls.

Consider the work you put into creating your puppet. How did you go about it? What did you struggle with along the way and how did you problem solve those moments? What parts of your puppet really stand out to you as great? How did those parts come about?

When it came down to the creation of my puppet, I used images and my own sketches to help aid me in the creation process. I struggled greatly with my puppets clothing, a yellow raincoat, and sought out for help from my group mate and friend, Breanna, who helped me complete the coat. I am most proud of my puppet's button eyes and blue hair, I feel I was truly able to capture the characters look using the resources I was given and that it came together quite nicely.

Reflect on your Puppet Play Performance (focus manipulation, voice, story, etc.) Also, describe your impressions of the puppet plays of other groups

Reflecting on my puppet performance I see that we could have done better. Lines were forgotten and some voices couldn't be heard, but overall, I think we did well. I believe our story was sharp and made sense throughout the performance. When it comes to the puppet plays of other groups, I must say I enjoyed them. Most, if not all, of the stories were clear and creative. People's puppets were very unique and well-done, and each performance went smoothly, for the most part. I am grateful for my group and the time they put into perfecting this puppet play performance.

You have likely studied Shakespeare prior to this class, or at the least were introduced to him and his work this week. Reflect on why you believe one person's work could be so highly acclaimed and how you feel taking on one of his famous scenes for your next project.

Shakespeare's work, the work of but one man is so highly acclaimed because it had never been seen before in his time. Shakespeare changed the laws of Elizabethan theater, and for that, we acknowledge and cherish his work. Never before had a comedy and tragedy been mixed in his time, that is until the story of Romeo and Juliet and many other great pieces he wrote. On account of how famous and loved his work is, it makes me incredibly nervous to be performing a scene from one of his plays in the weeks to come.

Describe the two costumes you're designing for "A Midsummer Night's Dream". Which characters are you designing for and how are you making their clothing an extension of their character? Consider describing the line, shape, silhouette, color, fabric, and accessories that are making your design interesting and thoughtful.

For my costume designs, I went with a 1950's look. I designed costumes for Lysander and Thisby, and took careful precision in making their clothing exemplify their personalities. With Lysander I went for more of a greaser look, with a leather jacket, blue jeans, and a white T-shirt. I thought this look would show how Lysander is more of a rebel in that he has stolen Hermia's heart and convinced her that they shall run away together so that they may be together. I wanted to show with Lysandr's costuming that he went against the normal standards of the king and his laws. For Thisby, I designed a polka-doted red dress, with a corset, a pearl neck-less, and black heels. I wanted to convey that Thisby was both classy and rebellious, because she is, as she speaks to her true love through a chink in a wall, but also comes from class and poise. I used shape, color, and accessories most in making my designs interesting and thoughtful. With Thispy's dress, I used circles and bright colors to show Thisby's bright spirit, while also accessorizing her with pearls and roses in her hair to add to her character. With Lysander, I used glasses as an accessory to his costume to give further depth to his character and make him stand out from the crowd. The color used in his costume also adds to his difference from others, as he has more dark, common tones in his clothing.

Submit a Creative Process Reflection for your Final Scene explaining what your performance piece is about, how you’re putting it together, and what some of your thoughts and influences are as you’re constructing the performance. What are you hoping the audience takes away from your performance? BE DETAILED AND THOROUGH WITH YOUR RESPONSE

For my final performance my group and I are performing a skit. The skit is about a virus that I create that ends up being a kill virus. The virus is spread and slowly spreads to my family which I end up killing. The ending will have a twist, which took a lot of brainstorming to figure out. Props and lighting will be big in our performance and we are planning on having costumes, and maybe even sound effects. As we were putting the performance together, the inspiration came from the idea of a zombie apocalypse, but we decided to go a slightly different route with a sickness instead spread by one of the characters. I am hoping that the audience notices all the effort put into the performance and story and that they are shocked and entertained by our final performance.
