Theatre 1: Blogs - Fall 2017

My name is Chris and my life revolves around my family, everything I do is because of them. I am a player for Union FC and I'm able to be good enough to play with them because my dad has made me love soccer since I was 4 and i never stopped playing since. On my free time, I like to play video games but it's not that often since I'm always busy. I'm hoping this class will help me get rid of stage fright and help me make more friends. I doubt I will have a career in theater but I would like to be a professional soccer player when I grow up.

The playwright is more important because you can have the best actors in the world doing a play, but if the idea of the story and plot is horrible, there is nothing the actors can do. For example, The Titanic would have been a great movie no matter what because of the plot and climance it had throughout. Also, the storytelling on the movie was amazing so no matter what, the movie would have been great even with bad actors.
My first performance in the class was fun to do but also very nerve racking . At first, I was extremely nervous because we did not rehearse much. After the act, I was glad to get it over with and I felt good knowing it was probably better than the group before us.

You and your group did have a very strong showing. The plot played well, however I would have loved to have seen more facial expressions from you... wear your thoughts on your face so the audience can see what you're thinking. Also, you broke out of character a few times, but as you mentioned that was likely due to not having a ton of rehearsal time. Next time work hard at being over prepared so you can shine bright on stage.

Reflect on the process of writing your monologue this week:
1) How did you begin? Did you brainstorm, get struck by a spark of imagination, or begin with by recounting a personal story, etc?
2) Has thinking about spine, objective, and tactics aided in your writing of an interesting story? Give an example of a tactic your character is using...
3) What theatrical genre would you apply to your monologue at this point and why?

1) I thought of a realistic place and time to tell stories and I thought of a bomb fire while camping, so that's my setting. The rest is just me thinking of story events that I think I can do at stage.
2) You know, I didn't even think about that so thanks for helping me out. AHAA!
3) I'm not sure if I want to make it a comedy or something serious.

1) Share out about your experience this week attending "As You Like It" at Sacramento Theatre Company. Indicate evidence that supports your opinion.
2) Additionally, consider your monologue...
a) What are you doing to prepare yourself for the performance?
b)How are you going to bring physicality to your character?
c)How might you apply what you saw in live theater this week to inspire your monologue performance?
1) Attending the Sacramento Theater Company was definitely a unique experience. I've never seen a live scripted play, I've never been inside a theater like that, and seeing real people so engaged in their work was new. The experience was overall really new to me but I did really enjoy it.
2A) I'm starting to try and memorize my monologue. I am planning to practice saying it in front of my sister too.
2B) I'm going to try to bring emotion, and draw out a picture for you to see.
2C) What I saw in the theater showed me that I don't have to be scared on stage and that I just need to do my thing.

Before my performance, I was pretty nervous for my name to get called because I wasn't ready. I had no script, but I had an idea on what I wanted to say. During the performance, I regretted not having a script or not rehearsing because I knew how stupid I looked up there. After the performance, I felt releaved that I was done, and I thought I did good sense everyone was laughing.

Consider the work you put into creating your puppet. How did you go about it? What did you struggle with along the way and how did you problem solve those moments? What parts of your puppet really stand out to you as great? How did those parts come about? What about your puppet's personality are you hoping to bring about through your voice?

I tried to make it look as much as Peppa Pig as possible. The dress was hard to make, but I did it by getting red cloth and making a triangle. The nose looks like a pigs nose so I'm proud of that. I made it out of extra clay and poked holes with a pencil for nostrils. Happiness and sarcasticness.

Before the performance, I wasn't ready to go and the fact we were first made us as a group all nervous. During the performance, Me and one of group members couldn't stop laughing so that made it hard to speak. After a while, I kinda got used to talking and it got easy. After the performance, I was disappointed on our execution, but glad it was over.
