I'm an German exchange student and I'm already two weeks in the US. I have chosen theatre because I was interested in this class, I wanted to try something new, because I was never before in a theatre class. I like this class, because we are doing so many different things like creative writing, we learn about theatre and art in general, also performing and some cool games. I don't have really a goal for this class, I just want enjoy this year.

1. Who is more important... the playwright or the cast and crew? Defend your assertion with your logic and some examples. 2. Also, how did your first performance in class go? What did it feel like before, during, and after?

1. There is no "more important or less important", because when there is no playwright the cast don't know what they play, if there's no actors it's no theatre. So there must be also the two things together it's completely collaborative. Without one of the team it doesn't work.
2. I think the first performance is never perfect, but it was fun to play with the others together, I like it to create a scene and play it together with the others. I felt very good, when I was on the stage I forgot that there is an audience, we played just the scene we talked about it before.

You did a great job performing with your group. You committed to your character so fully that it does not surprise me that you felt that the audience was not there. Also, you had very expressive facial acting which allowed us to know your character's feelings and thoughts without you even saying a word. I'm glad you enjoyed the experience. Build on that confidence and enjoyment to ensure that you prepare in the same way for the next one so you can do just as well.

Consider the work you put into creating your puppet. How did you go about it? What did you struggle with along the way and how did you problem solve those moments? What parts of your puppet really stand out to you as great? How did those parts come about? What about your puppet's personality are you hoping to bring about through your voice?

I really enjoyed creating the puppet, because I love crafting and to create things by myself. I loved that everybody could choose his own characters. It was a little bit difficult to make the clothes for my puppet, and I clued the arm sticks on the wrong position, but I had the chance to improve it and it worked out at the end. I can also say that I'm proud of my puppet, because it really looks like a Minnie Mouse. I would love to do activities like that more often!

I enjoyed our performance. It was funny, but also weird, because we didn't know how the puppets are performing, because we can't see ourselves. I kind of tried speaking like Minnie Mouse, but I don't know how it sounded like. Backstage we helped each other, when someone forgot what to say. Watching the others was great. It was crazy to see, how in just one week you can prepare a whole play, with puppets script and a performance. All in all I really liked this project from making the puppets to perform on stage.

Describe your Shakespearean experience over the last weeks: What was it like performing a work written over 400 years ago? How did you approach your costume and makeup/hair designs for the scene? Why do you believe Shakespeare remains relevant to audiences to this day?

I enjoyed performing the play, it was different, but I like to try new things. Even the language was very old it was fun to see how they spoke.
For my costume design I first researched for different time periods and watched photos of the time period. Then I chose two different times and researched a little bit and made some sketches.
For my make up design I was inspired by the movie, with like flowers.
I think Shakespeare is known until today, because his plays were like really dramatic and special. He was a great playwright and people are still inspired by him.

This reflection should explain what your Final Scene performance piece is about, how you’re putting it together, and what some of your thoughts and influences are as you’re constructing the performance.

I'm going perform a song, but I don't really know yet which song, I'm still thinking if I want to sing in English, French or German. It's hard for me to find a good song, because I'm not the best singer, but I really like singing. I guess I'm little late because I need to learn the song and practice how to perform, but I really can not decide. If I sing in French or German nobody would understand what I'm singing about, but that would be unique. I think I just need to practice a few songs, that I still can decide later.
