Theatre: Blog Reflection

Hello! I'm Shannon. I'm just a really weird fan girl. I like to dance, but I've been doing theater more than I've been doing most of my hobbies. I'm excited for theater because it's always been something I'm interested in. I come from a long line of actors in my family. I haven't had much time to explore my interest because of dance, which is why I'm glad to be in theater this semester. I mean, I spend all of my free time on the computer reading fan fiction, watching Dan and Phil, or watching anime, but hey, you can't blame me.

We have a lot of assignments! I like my idea for the creative journal, even though I made Peter Pan super depressing, and I have a few ideas for the dialogue. I understand the career catalog, so I think I should be fine altogether.

Yes, I like your prologue reading, and I like your roar.

I liked watching everyone's mimed animal performances. I was wondering how people were planning to pull it off. My group is the only group who hasn't gone yet, so we're going on Monday. I like our idea and I hope it goes well. I hope everyone in our group knows what to do.

Regarding your Group Mimed Performance: You asked me to look to see if you felt awkward. I didn't feel that you came across awkward, but there was room to appear more catlike. What subtle physical choices would evoke the cat hungry for the fish and thinking strategically about how to get it?

My character for my monologue is a girl who is trying to persuade her mom to let her switch schools in order to get away from the crazy people she encounters at her school. I can become this character onstage by not only convincing my "mom" that I want to switch schools, but convincing the audience as well. My monologue is a little short, so now I'm trying to make it a little longer. I hope it goes well next week!

Regarding you Monologue Performance: You had great volume for the space and came across very natural and convincing in voice and somewhat in facial expressions. Now you need to translate the text and character to the whole body.

I thought my monologue went well, but after it was over, I kind of wished I had picked a different topic. I'm not sure what. Probably something more interesting and original, but that doesn't matter now. Even though I was reading off of my paper the whole time, I still think my performance was good enough.

My collage had a lot of interesting patterns that I thought would be cool to put in my set. I like my current set. It is two rooms side by side, but they look really different. What I did with my collage is I tried to see which bits stood out more, and I tried to do that with my set, too. I already thought of a good story with lots of detail to match the set and the collage. I hope I get to use it at some point!

I liked what the college that the guest speaker told us about had to offer. So far I don't have very many plans for college, and I still need to figure what exactly I want to be. I have about 3-4 years or something to figure out what to do, though, so I might be fine.

I know there are many similar things in modern and ancient theater. Comedies and tragedies play by pretty much the same rules, and all the same stages still exist. Speaking of comedy and tragedy, their symbols are the most well known thing about theater. The masks could be well known because comedy and tragedy are very important genres and some of the most popular plays of all time are put in those categories.

I think my group's puppet show was pretty good. It was meant to be a lot more dramatic than everyone else's presentation, but I kind of think we pulled it off. I would like to know what other people thought of our presentation.

Regarding your puppet play performance: You had great projection and remained very engaged in the action. You allowed your puppet to remain open to the fourth wall without loosing focus on the action of the scene.

Shakespeare's work was so famous maybe because of the originality and good story plots. Every play he wrote had a different but still good story, which is why we still talk about him today. We are going to perform a scene from one of his plays, and I am the prologue and the lion. I have a lot to memorize, but technically only three lines. Each of my lines is really long. Interested to see for myself how I pull it off.

I remember when I saw Wicked in New York City a few years back. it was the first Broadway musical I'd ever seen, so i remember it pretty well. I remember one scene where Glinda was in a party dress when they were about to sing "Popular". I think I heard something where they used the same dress for every cast for every year. It was pink, sparkly and short. I only remember that much.

I feel like I did pretty well in my part of the scene. I wish I had put more time into my lines to completely memorize them. I slipped up a few times, but I felt my overall performance was alright. I didn't like the hat I had to wear as the lion.

You did well, just next time, make reading the script a little less obvious.

My primary scene is the Star Wars project. At first I had a cool idea that I really wanted to make happen, but then realized I didn't have time, which made me sad. I play a lot of different parts in this project. What this project is is just a recreation of the newest Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens. I'm excited to see what people think of our performance. I hope it entertains our audience. I still have to memorize all my lines, though. Yikes.

Proud of our Star Wars family :) We did so well! There were a bunch of mistakes, but that doesn't matter now. Most of us got 100% on our performances! I like how the end of the year turned out. Peace out
