Well, first and foremost i'll state the obvious by saying I'm a student in this class. I'm a person that prefers to be self reliant for most of the aspects in life as much as I can at least. Though, when necessary I enjoy working in collaborative projects with others. In the future I see myself in an unconventional job and just exploring what life has to offer. I'm adventure bound and want a creative outlet so I see this class helping me decide a proper path that may help me accomplish this. This doesn't per-say mean theatre but its a good start to where I may want to go in the future.

1. Who is more important... the playwright or the cast and crew? Defend your assertion with your logic and some examples. 2. Also, how did your first performance in class go? What did it feel like before, during, and after?

The cast and crew is the most important in a performance because things can go not to plan and having a cast and crew can add more depth to any performance based on improv while a playwrite can't add any of these changes. The playwrite adds guidelines but the cast and crew are the ones to actually make the story.

I felt my first performance went well, in the beginning I felt rather antsy but when actually preforming it all became natural or second nature. To start off I was all jittery and restless but towards to end it all was rather calming watching and preforming.

1) How did you begin? Did you brainstorm, get struck by a spark of imagination, or begin with by recounting a personal story, etc?
2) Has thinking about objective and tactics aided in your writing of an interesting story? Give an example of a tactic your character is using...
3) What theatrical genre would you call your monologue at this point and why?

1) My monologue first began with an on slue of ideas ranging from villain to angst but settled on something for my own which is a mixture of everything, i'd say. My story had many ideas until one just ran with me and my fingers began writing so that's mainly it I suppose.

2) The concept of tactics truly added to my piece by allowing me to put a term for the shift my character took from his original opinion. A tatic he is using to to at first convince others he's remorseful but then turns into him acting defensive towards his actions.

3) I would classify my genre as a Drama because it has aspects of a drama without being a tragedy, it has suspense as well.

Consider your monologue... Give a synopsis of your story and the character you're going to portray. What are you doing to prepare yourself for the performance? How might you bring physicality to your character?


My story for my dialog starts out with my character, Conner, having to go on stage in front of his entire high school and having to give an apology speech. It begins rather slowly with Conner dragging out his words and repeating what is on his paper in a dull, unapologetic tone. He even admits himself he chose to do this for a lesser punishment. Though, mid way through his speech he realizes in himself that he has more self worth than this and goes against the forced apology provided for him. He carries on this rant saying he's not sorry for "hitting the guy" because he only did so to defend and stand up for someone picked on. He continues exclaiming how it may not have been the best way but it was effective and the only choice he had at the time. He ends his speech stating, "I'm not sorry."

I can bring physicality to my performance by having him throw his paper on the ground when he goes against the school and to walk around the stage.

Reflect on your monologue performance. What it like in preparation and anticipation? What was your experience during the delivery of your monologue? What parts do you feel went really well. What parts so you know you'd want to improve upon? Also, what was it like being an audience for your peer's monologues?

The preparation was overall relatively good. Saying the lines and practicing was actually fun to do too but the anticipation was dreadful. Anxiously waiting for your make to be called was quite sickening to the stomach making me nauseous with the loud applause echoing in the black box. The delivery of my monologue started off strong but then gradually trailed off to below my standards as I began too stress but I suppose to others it seemed normal. I feel my beginning went well as I transformed into my desired character. Though parts I want to improve on are my on stage confidence. Audience wise I enjoyed being apart of the experience.

Describe the beginning concept for your set design. What elements of your inspiration collage did you draw upon? What is the basic stage scene you're setting in your design? Is there a strong design concept yet it regard to style, form, texture, color, etc.?

The beginning concept of my design was spongebob related. I wasn't quite sure to start off with but it eventually morphed into what it became now which is the ice cream parlor scene from the movie. Elements of inspiration were diffidently the color scene on my collage. The pop of yellows reminded me of the sponge and overall gave me the idea. The basic scene I am aiming to convey is Patrick walking into the ice cream shop full of glee as he is on his way ti congratulate his best friend on the promotion. I'm trying to portray a happy and jovial atmosphere. A core design element that sticks out is the over use of pink. The entire stage is filled with the color and honestly somewhat burns your retinas.

Reflect on the creative process of working from inspiration through to presenting your set design. What were the ah-ha moments of inspiration and the challenges you had to be creative to overcome? What's your overall impression of the growth of your creative muscle through the process of this project?

Throughout my creative process I would say that there were many ah ha moments. One of these moments being with my collage when a yellow m and m reminded me of Spongebob which truly became a kickoff point for my project. Some challenges along the way were definitely making the stage. This grew increasingly difficult as carving foam was messy and unpredictable. I overcame this by using it as a base and gluing cardboard to even it out. I feel the overall my creativity grew because of the creative obstacles that I overcame.

My biggest take away of the interview was the variety and amount of jobs it takes to put a performance together. It was not only the actors and director who was essential to make a performance cohesive but also the people who sell tickets and who organize props. These lesser known people are the core of a production and can also, if you know them, lead you to your dream job.

Tell about the process of creating your puppet. Give two examples of how the character you were creating influenced design choices such as painting the facial features and costuming.
Also, reflect on your puppet play performance. What was challenging and what went well? How do you feel your voice performance went? How did you enjoy watching the other puppet shows?

The process of creating my puppet began with my sketching ideas down briefly then leaning it into a finale draft sketch that would become the basis of my puppet. When sketching my puppet my I decided early on that I wanted my character to have a low ponytail so that loose hair wasn't flying in the face of my puppet so hat became a predominate feature of my puppet. Another key aspect was how I did my cloths. For example in the design I specifically wanted my character to have overalls so in the 3d model of my puppet I had to make sure I had denim which became a good basis of inspiration for my puppet as later on I added pockets to the outfit. What was challenging was the eyes and keeping them center but what I would say went very smoothly was the nose. I had a nose with nostrils and detentions which definitely made the piece come together as a whole. The voice for my character went amazing. I loved preforming with a Texas accent as I took inspiration from Sandy Cheeks from the show Spongegbob. The other performances were also hilarious as a side note.

You have likely studied Shakespeare prior to this class, or at the least were introduced to him and his work this week. Reflect on why you believe one person's work could be so highly acclaimed and how you f-*eel taking on one of his famous scenes for your next project.

I have worked with many of Shakespeare's work having been apart of a Shakespeare class, and I can truly say I understand how one persons work can be so highly acclaimed. It wasn't only his writing but his achievement in the advancement of literature. He gave new and fresh insight with his plays which makes me feel an honor being part of that in a play.

Reflect on your "A Midsummer's Night Dream" scene performance. Offer insight into what it was like taking direction, memorizing lines, and performing a famous Shakespearean work.

My mid summers performance went relatively okay I thought. I've been in plays before so taking stage direction was relatively easy as well. Plus my character, Thisbe, was not on stage all that much. Memorizing the lines took more effort i'll admit and I almost messed up on stage but I got through it in the end. I've preformed many Shakespeare's works before so as far as Elizabethan language goes it felt normal.

This reflection should explain what your performance piece is about, how you’re putting it together, and what some of your thoughts and influences are as you’re constructing the performance.

The performance my group settled on was, Clue, a murder mystery. We are putting it together by writing the script as if we each are one of the main characters, White, Green, Scarlet, Plum, Mustard, Peacock and Body. We portray the story by using a mix of scene changes and witty dialog to convey this story.My thoughts and influences on the performance are obviously us being inspired by the board game and movie with our own twist on the material and plot given to us.

You will provide a Self-Evaluation Reflection on your blog following your performance basing your comments on the Evaluation Rubric’s criteria: Acting, Use of Space, Text, & Process.

During my finale performance as a whole I thought it went okay though self improvement is necessary. Issues first began with the script itself, even though we completed a full script we spent hours in our own free time to write the piece with still little to no time in class because of the amount of people in our group. Since we needed at least 16 minutes on stage. The amount of people was great to bounce ideas off of but the actual time to write, produce, stage, gather costumes and props made the performance practice be crunched on time which i'd say was our greatest down fall. With all that said the acting side of things I thought went well. Our group was filled with amazing actors and creatives which made the experience fun and enjoyable as a process. Not to mention when we messed up on stage this called for great improvisation which I thought saved our show. The script itself was more difficult to remember because of the lack of time and long blocks of text but the witty comments I thought showed through in our finale performance.
Myself in this performance I thought did okay as I studied my lines and practiced at home. Lastly, as a whole in this class, I thought I improved my acting and my stage fright which was the best benefit as a class. I learned to work with others which was spicy👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
