Governor Newsom Launches New Effort To Prepare Students and Workers for High-Paying Careers
West Sacramento - On August 31, 2023, Washington Unified School District (WUSD) was honored to host California Governor Gavin Newsom, First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, and the state’s top public education and workforce leaders at the Bryte Career and College Training campus. Governor Newsom and distinguished guests joined students in the Commercial and Residential Construction, Culinary Arts, and Agricultural Science pathways, three of the eleven pathways offered through River City High School (RCHS). These pathways are shining examples of educational excellence in our community. Our students are not just passive recipients of information; they are active participants in their growth, guided by passionate educators and mentors who understand the significance of hands-on learning. At the event, Governor Newsom signed an executive order launching a new career education effort to prepare students and adults for the workforce of tomorrow and directing additional steps to reduce employment barriers for state jobs — including college degree requirements unnecessary to job duties. The Governor’s executive order directs the state to align and integrate the implementation of programs supported by billions of dollars in funding to prepare students and workers for high-paying careers.
