​Costume Design

Create two distinct costumes designs.

Requirements:
  1. Plan & research designs for two characters
  2. Use templates, or draft your own models, & sketch detailed costume designs
  3. Use color & fine detail to bring the work to fuller fruition
  4. One should be realistic in design, while teh other should be more fantasy inspired and nonrealistic.

Requirements:
  1. Sketch ideas in your journal of a character mask from different angles
  2. Consider physical features that will aid in telling the audience more about the character
  3. Complete a final draft that uses color, fine detail, & an angle that can show the dimension of the mask

Create a rod puppet design in your journal

Requirements:
  1. View the home page slide show of some famous puppets at the Puppet Theater on the Champ de Mars in Paris for inspiration. Choose to  surf the web a bit for additional inspirational sources.
  2. Draft many ideas for your puppet character's face and clothing
  3. Consider drawing the puppet from multiple angles
  4. Finalize a draft using color & fine details

Requirements:
  1. Sketch gobo ideas based on your collage's forms, line, shape, textures, colors & content
  2. Sketch a finalized gobo design
  3. Use thin metal and a craft knife to create your gobo

​Begin to imagine & sketch a set design, being inspired by your collage

Requirements:
  1. Sketch ideas based on your collage's forms, line, shape, textures, colors & content
  2. Develop a story concept based on your collage 
  3. Sketch a set design concept from a single scene of your story
  4. Complete a ground plan & elevation draft of your set

CJ8: Inspiration Collage

This is the first step in your multi-week Set Design Project

Requirements: 
  1. Choose a story you want to design for!
  2. Gather images from magazines that inspire you in terms of color, form, texture, etc.
  3. Collage the gathered image in a thoughtful way, considering the principles & elements of design
  4. Final work must be at least 8.5" x 11", fully collaged

CJ6-7: Explore, Edit ​& Score Your Monologue

Dig deeper into the monologue you've written by exploring the character and context of the piece as you edit, rehearse, & prepare to perform.

Requirements:
  1. Consider the larger context of the monologue by imagining a show in which it could live. Create a PLAYBILL program as a way to discover more about your monologue on the provided worksheet. 
  2. Peer Feedback - allow your partner time to offer critical and thoughtful feedback in writing on the provided form.
  3. Complete a Character Analysis worksheet to dig deeper into your role.
  4. Be sure your monologue is typed and shared in Google Drive. 
  5. Edit your monologue considering the feedback and discussion with a peer.
  6. Print a copy for class use.
  7. Work through the rehearsal process by Scoring your monologue for objective, obstacle, beats and tactics. 
  8. Be prepared to discuss Scene Specifics such as where your scene is taking place, and to whom your character is talking to.

Requirements:
  1. Follow the sketch tutorials with Mr. Hanks in class
    1. Draw and label the different stage types​

CJ4: Draft a Monologue

Draft a first person narrative that you will recite onstage in a few weeks

Requirements:
  1. Take some time to read sample monologues to get acquainted with the idea of a one person scene
  2. Find examples here: FREEDRAMA.NET
  3. Then, draft a 1 minute monologue of your own in your journal
  4. Write through the voice of a fully realized character experiencing a story that has a beginning, middle, & end
  5. Be school appropriate in theme & content. Something you'll be proud to present in week 7

CJ2 & 3: Elements
​of Art

​Experiment with each of the 7 Elements of Art.

​Requirements:
  1. First take time to do the daily Warm Ups, learning more about and taking notes on the elements of art
  2. Then, follow the worksheet prompts to practice the element of art being covered
  3. Glue, tape, or staple the warm up notes/activity into your creative journal
  4. The 7 topics will be reviewed in your journal for grading
