SCREEN 1
An entry level course where students learn the basics of creativity, visual thinking, and the practical aspects of filmmaking. Units of focus include: Working as a Creative Artist, the History of Film, the Language of Film, and Film as Expression. Practical skills include, use of video cameras and types of shots, digital video editing using WeVideo, storytelling through character and world creation, screenplay writing, storyboarding, graphic design, communication and collaboration. In-class screenings and presentations required (no public screenings). |

Learning the Language of Film
Uncover the hidden ways filmmakers communicate with their audiences through continuity editing and montage theory. Pen a story in proper screenplay format and build a storyboard to support the text. Utilize these to produce a short film, complete with a montage sequence.

Film as Expression
Dig into your creative process and reflect on your creative outputs. Use creative know-how and inspirational inputs to develop a story to be set to film. Assemble a film pitch complete with title logo, story synopsis, characters and costumes, the world and settings, in addition to planned shooting style. Bring the course to a close via a series of reflective writings to ruminate on your journey through the creative world of filmmaking.
