Introduction to Professional Theatre
STAGE 1
This introductory course allows students to tune up their social skills with an interactive exploration of all things theatre: Working as a Creative Artist, Exploring Theatre History, Techniques in Acting, and Design and Technical Theatre. Exploration of the creative process is achieved through script writing and performance, individual and group projects, and inquiry based dives into the creative world of making something out of nothing and bringing shows from page to stage. In-class performance & presentation is mandatory. |

Working as a Creative Artist
Explore how artists think about the art they create and consume. Look within to discover the ways you work creatively. Exercise creative thinking by extracting a story about yourself to convey in a new and unexpected way.

Uncover the ways our contemporary entertainment is rooted in the theatrical past. Reveal surprising connections by creating an entertaining presentation of facts that puts to use tried and true theatrical practices and devices.

Acting Techniques
Bring varied and interesting characters to life by learning how actors work to develop characterization through physicality, voice, and mindset. Experience living in-the-moment through improv exercises and scene work with other actors. Perform improv, monologue, duo, & ensemble scenes.

Design & Technical Theatre
Dig into your creative process and reflect on your creative expression. Use creative know-how and inspirational inputs to develop designs for a dramatic work. Assemble a design pitch with a combination of options such as set, lighting, properties, costumes, hair, make-up, masks, puppets, special effects, marketing, etc. Present your design pitch with an emphasis on links to creative careers researched during the development process. Bring the course to a close via a series of reflective writings to ruminate on your journey through the creative world of theatre making.
