Film as Expression

12/17/2025

Reflect on this unit as we explored the many elements for cinematic storytelling. What was the creative process like for you as you transitioned from assessing professional work with Project Pull-Apart into developing a new feature concept for Project Greenlight? Discuss the struggles and successes of making the various elements for your pitch and ultimately how you felt about presenting your concepts to the class.

This unit has helped me learn how to better express myself with media in general. It allowed me to learn how to tell an effective story. This led me to start doing script writing on my own. Thank you Mr. Hanks for giving me this ability.

Honestly, when starting out for this project, I was super out of it due to being sick, which also left me a little behind. I was able to catch up and finish on time though. I do really like how we got more creative freedom on this project, and it allowed me to properly express my creativity through a story. Trying to brainstorm was a little hard, because I had a lot of distractions and was trying to put all my thoughts together to make a cohesive and interesting story. Overall, I really liked this project and how it turned out.

This unit in film helped me understand what kinds of films I like to create, and what types of film I like to watch. This course helped me become better in filmmaking and what to notice when watching film. It helped me brainstorm and become more creative in my thinking processes.

I think this unit was a really fun unit because we got to use our own inspiration to make our own projects and have 100% of our ideas to use to create our projects. Some of the successes for me was that I enjoyed this class really much. Some of the struggles though are that a lot of the time I got distracted a lot and procrastinated doing these projects.

The creative process really only needed was the story you needed to make and other than that they are pretty similar. The struggles weren't that many as long as you put the time and effort into it, and the successes were many as it was fun and the projects I was in was very good, and was enjoyable to both watch and act in. Presenting my concepts was also fun because I like to see how others see our finished products and see them enjoy it as much as I did.

The most creative thing working in this class was, making our own creation of Movie or story. Struggles was getting to know others the very starts of the class, it was very boring and long the beginning, but later it got better and fun. After making various of films and edits, it made me had experience and time with learning other students.

The creative process transitioning from professional work to my own was easier than having to come up from scratch. Being able to create my inspiration collage first before even thinking about ideas for my own film made it easier for me to brainstorm and think about how I wanted to lay out a movie trailer and plot synopsis for my film. The success I was able to find was being able to have more fun creating and filming my actual movie trailer because I had a clear idea and plot synopsis to film each scene in. The challenging part was editing everything together since I wanted to have a fast paced edit that matched my montage editing to the beat of the music making it seem in sync with each other. Ultimately, I felt proud being able to present my project to the class and I was satisfied with the way others found my project interesting, definitely my best project I have made all semester.

It was very challenging as I'm better at adding stuff than creating. I preferred the pull apart of a film I already knew and was obsessed with. I struggled the most with a storyline and how my characters should act and look like, but my main thought was main character as the antag and have them die at the end.

So for me that I made this project pull apart and the project greenlight was the Simpsons movie and The Fast and Furious 7 in it and i really liked making this project and i felt Like i did it better than someone else for it and also i do really like the project pull apart that i made for the Simpsons movie and it made my day the best when i Present the project that i made for myself and people liked it.

Throughout my semester Mr. Hanks has been a delightful, wonderous teacher, who is kind hearted. Film has took me on a journey through the visually creative aspects. It pushed me to become better and to show my outstanding abilities. I will definitely strongly recommend his class, its very easy, insightful, and guide full.

This creative process going from Project Pull-Apart into Project Greenlight has been exceptional. It has been easy, though I had a bit of trouble trying to find the theme and motifs but I was able to get that though easily. It felt amazing and fun presenting the concepts and pitch to the class, especially since making that trailer has been some of the best days in this class. Even other's pitches were intriguing and captivating.

I really enjoyed the unit. Working on breaking down a film and then fleshing out my own idea was truly a great time. I think the hardest part had to be brainstorming though. I wish I had more time to think about the world I wanted to create, because I feel the final project is too generic and falls into a cliche. But it's still a good, grounded story at least.

As a whole, this unit was by far my favorite, since I got to make projects that were fun to make. Although they were a little time consuming, and a bit stressful, they were overall very fun to make. While my favorite Project to make in this Unit was Project Pull-Apart, the one I actually enjoyed the most to create was Project Greenlight. The reason being is since I really liked the way I made my overall presentation, even though I didn't finish it in time since I was doing other things. The lasting impression I have for this Introductory class is very good, and I might think about taking the Advanced Class.

This unit was really eye opening and helped me embrace creativity. I struggled with understanding that everything takes hard work and keeping myself motivated and managing my time well. But it was really fun.

Yeah i creative processed it before we filmed and kinda figured it out on set, the main theme i wanted to betray using our story was that life is absurd and that even when its difficult and not okay that is still okay you know, nothing is perfect no moment has ever been perfect but if you accept it for what it is and just stop fighting every feeling and every thought you will suffer much less. I don't know if we betrayed that fully but i still thought it was cool.

I think project pull apart helped us develop new concepts and ideas since studying the work of professionals made us think in more ways of how we can really make a theme more vibrant in Project Greenlight. Some of the things studying professionals taught us to change is lighting and clothing.

I really like expressing my thoughts, feelings, and emotions through writing and recording. I had a great time making and watching movies. I have now understood a lot better the process of making movies and just how tedious the work can be. I have learned to appreciate the work of art that movies and film too. This whole class had help me learn how to develop my own movies and how to write them. It was very hard at some point but this class was never not fun. It was also very fun seeing the assignments come together how I want them to and it was always satestfying.

As I relook over the semester I look at the creative process and how hard it was for me to find that creativity. Doing project pull apart was a little bit easier considering there was already a storyline and things to based on. Whereas when I was doing project greenlight, it was much harder since I had to create everything myself. I used things like princess movies that I loved growing up and that I still love to this day as an inspiration to my project and it helped a lot to put me in the creative mindset to finish this project. am beyond grateful to have learned all that I did this semester and have it be a part of my senior year.

the creative process is hard but rewarding pull apart helped me take the best movie Rambo first blood and use it to make a pitch about a vietnam war film it was a struggle lots of thinking time and all but this class was worth it.

I struggled on project pullapart but it got easier when i worked in a group for greenlight. Project Greenlight was very fun compared to the other things.

The creative process was hard I didn't really know what the story would be but from doing the Pull a part I kind of got the inspiration on what I would do. The presentation itself wasn't that bad even though I was really nervous and everything but overall I liked the project.

I had fun doing the project greenlight assignment because I go6t to think about my own story and I can use my imagination. I had fun typing out my story and finding pictures for my writing.

I really enjoyed this unit because I enjoyed pitching my own ideas to the classroom. Now i understand the process of making movies and just how difficult the work can be. The hardest part for me was brainstorming, but after creating an idea, I was able to finish my pitch.

the process was kind of hard in the beginning when your starting from scratch but besides that, everything else went smoothly once you got all your ideas set and ready. the amount of time thinking of what to do was worth it in the end.

I had a lot planned for project greenlight. I wanted to do a photoshoot, a trailer, and an actual, honest to God storyboard. But due to stuff, both outside my faults and inside my faults, It ended up being a shell of what I wanted to do. I'm disappointed, but hopeful my project will get picked up so I can develop and create my film.

The process was challenging, but also rewarding, I used the 1st 2 TASM movies as a pitch and made my own concept of how TASM 3 could have looked since Sony never made it (in the presentation I said that he gets more brutal and darker... and that's because he gets the symbiote and he'll have it for the first hour but eventually he will realize that the symbiote is corrupting him and he will get rid of it) overall I made the TASM 3 we all wanted but never got.(Imagine Sony sees this 🙏🙏)

I had a much easier time making project greenlight. That and pull-apart were fun, but I felt that there was less pressure to get things perfect on greenlight since I was making it and I got to decide what things to make and include. It was also much easier to summarize something shorter than a 100-minute movie. I like being creative and coming up with my own things!!!! is that so wrong>??? HUH??????

The process was kind of hard in the beginning when you dont really know what to start with, everything once you know what you want to do it was pretty easy to work on.
