This unit asked you to develop a design package that would propel a show from "page to stage." Recall what the process was like perusing scripts to choose one you preferred. Then, what the creative journey was like considering inspirations and solving design challenges as set by the script. Ultimately, tell about your final presentation to the class of your original physical, worn, and sensory designs. Overall, what has this unit taught you about all the creative work that goes on behind the scenes of a theatrical production?

Choosing the script was probably the hardest part because there was a lot of good scripts to choose from. I really enjoyed creating the makeup, hair, and costume looks. This project let me incorporate my own personal interests. This unit has taught me that it takes a lot to have a show and every little design or part of the show matters.

This was interesting and not real but, its awesome to see how a scene can be made. I also seen makeup being put on. I seen the motor and gun as well as costumes. There were cops that were blocking off the streets where they were taping. Actors playing a role of their characters.

I couldn't really find scripts that I liked, so I just picked a script on something I already know. It was kind of difficult finding the costumes designs and stuff since I had to research what the costumes were about and what time period they were from. This unit taught me that there is a lot more stuff happening behind the scenes than I anticipated and you need a lot of people to get a show going.

The play I chose was The Other Room. I really liked how this show looked and when I read it I decided to do my project on this. I was stuck on how to be very stylish and creative with a play. read the play and understood what was needed and the basic requirements which is what I did. Then once I presented my final piece I didn't think It was too bad, it was quite easy actually. I basically learned all the needs of a play and how much stuff are required for it, including patience.

In technical theatre, I really only new about costumes, which I still didn't know much about. But the unit opened more doors for me and for what I can do for theatre. I find a lot of possible futures in this pathway.

It was a little hard at first to find a script i liked, that also followed the things i was looking for. The journey was really fun and i liked being able to think about the play and all the little details within it. My presentation i did a menu from the play, and i believe it went very well. This has taught me about all the things that go into a play and the meaning behind each small thing in that play. Overall, i loved this unit because it again pushed me to a level of creativity i have never been to before. Thank you for being my teacher this year cant wait to do stage 2!

The process of choosing a script, reading it and breaking it down into different parts and kind of making the characters was really fun. I got to envision and pursue different characters to my liking and change them based on their personalities. I struggled with creating a tangible object, at first I considered making a set, then just wearing something in, or doing makeup and take a picture of it, but I decided on making a menu with the food listed in my play. My presentation was a little choppy, I was really nervous and not quite prepared but I think it went well. This unit has taught me that getting over the fear of presenting isn't that hard, considering everyone else is doing the same project and they probably feel just as nervous.

This project unit was fun to make, however in the first week I've didn't start, I barely had enough time to finish this but luckily I did finish on time and it was fun to paint, draw and create this project of my own... I'd hoped in the future I could do something like this later often but with me being prepared... I've learned to start things from the beginning even if you feel numb about it

Overall I loved being able to do this... and by that I mean being able to read people's thoughts (author's) on how they created this play. From this I got to like experience it myself by being like the designer of the play. However, I now see how difficult it is to make and design because all of these steps and process takes lots of time. In the beginning, I only chose the play/script and read through it and after I started designing... which was the costumes, sound, lightning, ect. Every detail was like it's own flavor/topping because it wasn't just there, each object had it's own meaning (role) to the play. Most of all, I loved how I got to watch everyone present because everyone did something different and used their own creativity.

Finding a script was a little hard because I wasn't sure what I wanted to do in the beginning but when I found the script I liked it was very easy to put my ideas on paper. While I had all the ideas in my head it was difficult to find what I wanted on the internet luckily I found everything I needed so the creative process was not that hard. This unit taught me that there is more to the theatre than what I thought. And making physical designs are hard but I really liked this unit.

During this unit/project, I learned about all kinds of different technical and design aspects and jobs, beyond just regular stage crew. Choosing one script was a bit difficult, because I found a few that I liked. But after that, the project was relatively easy. The script didn't describe the setting or characters too much, so a majority of the design choices were left up to the reader's imagination. I came up with the character's designs, made a model of what I thought the set would look like, and presented it

Overall this project was a major W, a 10/10. Perusing scripts was very interesting because I got to look through different plays and choose the one that sparked the most interest in me. The creative journey of piecing the different elements of this play together from notes, to rough draft, to ultimately a final piece I'm proud of was a very time consuming yet enjoyable process. I got to use my creativity to really explore the world of theater and set design as well as costumes and technical roles. My final presentation was something that I was really proud of in the end and was one of the most enjoyable presentations I've ever given for a class. This class, and project have really given me a new understanding and appreciation of all the thinking, planning, and designing that goes into putting on a show. :))

It was a little hard finding the scripts because a lot of them didn't interest me too much. I originally wanted to do regular Romeo and Juliet, but then found the seussified version and decided to do that one instead because it seemed more fun. Finding inspirations was pretty easy. The only difficult part was finding Dr Seuss paintings that I liked and would like to somewhat incorporate in the play. There was also a lot of work that I had to put into it, especially thinking about the costumes because it's Seuss and not regular typical clothing. The sensory designs were the hardest to decide what I needed with the lighting. It was still very fun making all of the pieces of the play.

The unit of designing and directing a play was actually really fun making something and putting your own touch on it.There is a lot that goes into directing and making a play with all the cast and crew and designing the outfits makeup and hair and stage design, but its a fun challenge especially if you don't have a lot to work with. My final presentation was a relief but also good especially showing what I would do or what I would change about the props and designs. This unit has taught me a lot with how making a play and how much stress but yet accomplishment with what you did for the play you help make.

This entire process has been very interesting because, i have usually focused on the acting part of a show and spend most of time learning how to be the best actor possible. When i found my play, I and You, i was immediately inspired. I could imagine being in this play, so i wanted to know more about making the play come to life. I especially found the costume and make-up designs fascinating, i really loved using my creativity in a new way. This play explores topics about life and death, which was a creative challenge, to create a logo that showed this. This has given me more interest into what goes into the back stage aspects of putting on a preformance

It was pretty fun to find a ton of options for my script, but i really did like the one I ended up using. The script itself is really simple, there's not many props or stage needs, besides lighting, sound, and a boat. but even those are really simple. It was also really fun to design all the costumes and makeup for the different characters.

the process for me was a bit tiring but i just decided to go with a story i know and went with that because its also childhood stories i decided to go with. designing it was interesting because there wasnt a lot of colors that i wanted to match with my logo but i just tried going with a simple blue and golden color for the words. character designs were hard and easy because the script already had an idea for what the characters should already look like which helped out a lot. presenting it i didnt like because i was really nervous and stuff but at least i did it. this unit taught me how much work was put into it

In the Technical Theatre Design program, students receive the “behind the scenes” training necessary to create a theatrical production. Students study theatre design, scene design, lighting design, stage management, costuming, and stage makeup.

Throughout the many weeks of creating our own set design, it was a long, creative process. First, choosing the play was an important decision, I wanted a play that I completely understood so I could thoroughly design the set. I needed to think creatively and think about everything visually even though we were just given a script. I thought my presentation slides were well written and organized. The slides quickly got to the point but were also very descriptive. Overall, it was a good unit and it showed me how much effort and thought is put into just rough drafts of a set design.

Making my play started off as confusing but eventually I got the hang of it and knew what I wanted to make. Once I figured out what play I wanted to do I just thought of what I would think would look best for it. I took inspiration from video games to which helped in the process. Overall after this unit I learned about the time that goes into making a theater production and how you need to think about and make everything for it.

I had some experience in crew before taking this class so I had some understanding of the work that goes behind a production. I mainly worked in props and stage management and sound and nothing else. Working on this helped me get insight on what it's like to work on other aspects of design full time and I honestly enjoyed it. It helped me see what other leads would be doing while i was doing my own thing. Overall it helped open my eyes on what else goes on for the rest of theater and i found out i do really like working on sound, the class itself also helped me be a bit more confident in my work as well.

The hardest part about this project was chiding the script because none of them looked interesting and they all seemed confusing and long. Once I finally found a script that was interesting I really liked picking the outfits and designing them. From this unit I learned that each piece of a play matters no matter how big or small it seems.

Finding a script to use for my design pitch was surprisingly not very difficult. I didn't have to search that hard to find one I liked which gave me more time to create my presentation. Because my play was set in the early 2000s, it was fun to find inspiration for the costumes and makeup. The journey through finding and creating my presentation was fun and interesting. Presenting my final pitch made me a bit nervous but I think it went well. Overall this unit really shed the light on the vast amount of jobs in this industry. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes, not only backstage, but other things like advertising and managing money. It was a very fun unit.

So, for choosing a play I liked I just skimmed through the summaries of like maybe 6 plays that I thought had cool title logos then I found this one that was kinda Sci Fiy and I thought it was cool. I originally wanted the whole thing to be SUPER basic, but as I went on looking for different cool designs I fell to more of a dream like or outer spacey vibe for the whole thing. I did a make up look on a mannequin head that was supposed to resemble my play's main character, I didn't really get the emo-y look I was going for but it still turned out good.

I loved everything about this unit, especially hearing other people's wonderful ideas. I remember just seeing the play I chose and ignoring it at first, but when I opened the play to read it, I fell in love with the characters, and the set. I remember wanting a thrust stage but I couldn't have one, so I chose a boring proscenium stage, but i spiced it up. My final presentation could have been better, but it wasn't bad, i wish i could have been more through

The way that I found the script that I wanted to use was by looking through the musicals provided, and seeing Clue which brought me a lot of nostalgia. The creative process was honestly the hardest part as I struggled to actually read through the script and it was hard for me to find details because I didn't really want to do the assignment. My final presentation was a lot easier as I already had the details and just had to arrange them in a way that I liked. This assignment has taught me how much work and effort goes into making and organizing a play because the director's vision can go in a lot of directions upon reading the script provided.

Finding a play script for my presentation wasn't too difficult, but the whole process of showing it off the classroom was an extreme hassle. I had to think very hard about how to make my Google Slides both engaging and informational. Furthermore, the model for the stage was tricky and didn't always turn out how I wanted it. There were parts of it that did not glue in well or some of the designs simply looked off. Overall, I think this was the hardest project I've done for the class. The previous assignments weren't as big and hard hitting for my grade unlike this.

I hated the original story's that where posted, so i looked under middle school and I found a funny story. It was exactly what I was looking for. Drew out the design I wanted. I then had the brilliant idea of abandoned building, then i thought, a abandoned theatre which then made the project a lot more fun. i did the slides last minute because that's when i do my best work. I watched a lot of apocalyptic shows to get inspired on clothing, what exactly i wanted.

When I first was looking for a script it was very overwhelming and hard how my script caught my eye was the title. While I was reading my script I notice all of the relatable and funny thing they had in it that's what caught my attention for sticking with this script. It wasn't hard for me to find a outfit and character design for them. For the set design I just searched up 18th century style house and looked through and found the perfect ones to put as my set design. This unit has taught me that it's very important to have the right setting and theme for the play you are trying to create.

Picking the script was fairly easy because I am interested in a lot of things so I just picked randomly. I then read the script and liked it. I began making my physical prop. I chose to do a set in the funeral scene because I felt it would be easiest. I began making every prop out of paper in the time spand of 2 days which was not to challenging for me. I than began my presentations which did not take me very long and overall this was easy

I had only had some experience in crew, mainly sound, but mainly I had experience about what some of the process of creating the show through an actor's POV. Choosing the script was somewhat difficult, I would look at some of the plays that I love like Pride and Prejudice and more, and I wanted to do those plays but I also wanted to learn about a new play and challenge myself. Once I read the script that I ended up choosing, it had some decorating and fashion elements that I like, which really pulled me in. Plus I loved plot of celebrity feuds. The creative journey was a bit difficult, especially since I am a very indecisive person, but I was really excited to dive in indulge in presenting how I would design 1940s old Hollywood Glamour. My favorite part was my inspo board of the set and the outfits. My final presentation was a bit too long and could've been shortened, but overall I loved theme, and my visions. This unit has taught me to be more creative and it showed be how deep and how much more it takes to create a play.

Picking the script was really hard for me because I had no idea what the technical needs would be, for example I wouldn't want a show that uses lots of lighting because that's not what I'm interested in. For me finding inspiration and making it my own was really easy because of they play that I chose also a lot of the costumes I didn't even have to find inspiration for. My final presentation could have been better if I was more confident and if I had notecards. But I love the prop I made. This unit has taught me how hard thespians work and how much thought they put into everything I have even more respect for them. 5/26/2022 01:00:36 pm
Looking behind the scenes of theatre production taught me a lot about theatre and it's culture. What I'm going to take the most from this unit is the many different roles and jobs that people have to make certain plays possible. I'm going to take this experience and develop myself further to pursue my career in Voice Acting. This was a wonderful unit, and it was really fun to pitch my own screenplay!

Finding a good script was so much fun. The one idea I had in mind was Batman, who I love and idol so much. Batman is super cool, he is a DC superhero who listens to Nirvanna, and I'm guessing Radiohead. I chose my script Bat Boy because it reminded me a lot of those ideals. I hope to see more vengeance.

I was very stuck on what script to choose, but I ended up finding a cinderella rewrite. It was cinderella with a comedic twist, I overall chose this because of my childhood connections to the movie. I used my memory, online sites, etc. to help me with my final presentation. I really liked this project because the limits were so small, it was fun to skim through the other scripts and then finalize my choice. After researching and finding things to use I gathered my knowledge to make the slides.

Well when I was introduced to the website playscripts I wanted to choose a more thrilling play, either it was going to be action or horror, and that when I saw this one play called "The Hallmarks of Horror". So when I started my presentation on this play I did some research on both horror films and horror plays and what information was suitable. During my process on the assignment I actually had to look at other movies and tv shows in order to do this, and even create my own poster based off the original which was a little hard, but in the end I managed to get all the slides done before it was due. And to be honest I'm actually glad with the results because I finally got everything done on time. But if there is one thing that this unit taught is that it feels great to be creative with your work and be yourself instead of some else.

i would say the script was pretty hard to choose because you'll have do research on it and see what's it about. For the play sets i think it was most difficult because you have to imagine what it will be like but i mostly just chose making props instead.. This unit taught me some much about theater and how the people in theater have to go through to makes movie or play real and for the audience to enjoy so i think i really liked this unit cause it let me be creative and see where my brain thinks

The process for choosing a play that I wanted to do my project on was trying to find genres of books and movies that I like. Which is romantic, mysteries, and murder and I ended up choosing Kill Me, Deadly which perfectly matched this description. After reading some of the script it takes place in the mid 1900s and it was giving mafia vibes. So I made sure in incorporate style from the 1900s but also give it a dark scary look to fit the mafia part of the play. After this process I presented the final product to the class and I was nervous at first but after I thought I did very well and I am proud of myself for finishing such a big project. This unit has taught me that filming a movie or casting a play is not as easy as it looks. Some parts were difficult for me and I don't even have to bring them to life, but imagining actually making all of it would be much harder. I applaud all the people who work behind the scenes and make the play/movie look how it is supposed to look.

This unit challenged me and came in at an odd time in my life, I found myself confused and lost at times, I struggled finding a piece I connected with, but when I did it felt right. Unfortunately I did not have the chance to present, but going back to do it again I feel that I would have a firmer outline and plan of attack. I will say it was super fun stepping into my mind and considering what theatre could look like from my standpoint as a director.

I had commented already but just in case you did not receive it. I watched the scenes and it was hard to choose what scene i wanted to watch but i did find one and found that it was very interesting when it comes to how much work it takes to create anything such as make up, actors, props, stages, people.
